Stickin’ it to the Gas Company

Posted by AlienCG on December 29, 2008

So, you’ve probably been asking, “I wonder what AlienCG was doing during this holiday weekend?”  I can sense the grave concern in your collective voice.  Well, let me set your minds at ease.  I have been, as the title states, stickin’ it to the gas company.  How am I doing that?  Well, that is another excellent question (you guys are asking some really good ones today).  My dad and I decided to fix an issue that has been plaguing me since I moved into my house (no, not the mice).

You see, the upstairs portion of the house, the dormer, was finished when I moved in, but one part was not.  The only thing keeping the cold air from the roof and exhaust fan from getting into main portion of the dormer were some fabric curtain panels.  Now, I am not dissing the insulative power of fabric, but it isn’t the most efficient method to keep the warm air in.  Look at these pictures:

See?  Not that efficient.  So, I finally decided to do something about it.  It started Friday with a trip to Home Depot and an idea.  Then the idea changed a few times until we finally decided on using magnets as the closures.  Here’s what they look like now:

I do have to paint the small panels (total of three), but they are holding the warmth in the office.  Also, the downstairs is already feeling warmer as well (today is much colder than yesterday).  I am really pleased with how the new door panels turned out.  I always enjoy sharing the weekend projects with all of you.

Hey, those look much better and you’ll most certainly be stickin’ it to the gas company with better paneling. Good job!
